We Love // Boutonné

I was sitting there minding my own business a few weeks ago when I stumbled across Erin Pechtel of Boutonné on the ever so wonderful Instagram. From there I've fallen in love with the aesthetic and character that is Boutonné and naturally wanted to learn more about Erin and how this beautiful company began all the way in Sunny San Diego. Sit back, pour a cup of tea, and read on!
1.How did Boutonné originally come about?
Boutonné was birthed out of a time in my life to start over.I always wanted to design my own collection & run my own business  so i thought ... what the heck, now is the time! So I took the massive leap of faith and started the company. It certainly has been a whirlwind of an adventure that has taken me to the most exciting places. we started out as a design firm + launched our first products in early 2013.

2.What are some of your favourite pieces?
I am just in love with the spring collection, the reverse collection. We actually took the indigo denim from the fall collection & turned it inside out, which is so super fun and gives such a great twist!

3.What are some unique ways you go about your creative process when coming up with new products/designs?
When I am designing my pieces, it's important to me that what I am creating is simple + timeless. I want my customers to have their piece for years to come. I also want to create pieces that either a man or woman could use.

4.Are there any creative mediums you'd like to move into but haven't yet pursued?
Oh goodness. I've always got my hands in soo many different projects! down the road i hope to see boutonné move into apparel.

5.What previous skills and knowledge did you have prior to starting Boutonné, that have made you successful?
I've been creating since i was a kid. This included things like putting things together, building things, painting and drawing. As I got older  I couldn't wait to turn 18 so that I could get a job and start working. I LOVE working! I've been lucky enough to work in display for retailers who really inspire me and have had the best times running retail spaces, merchandising product & building displays. People always look at me like I'm crazy when I say this, but i love retail especially aspects such as spacial planning, buying, selling, merchandising, display, vendor relationships, customer interaction ... I love all of it.

6.What vision do you have for your shop in say 10 years from now?
It is my hope to continue to grow the business, open stores across the US and expand the line into more goods & apparel.

7.Who or What has had the great influence over your work?
Hmmm ... this is a tough one. I would have to say my parents. I grew up learning about running a business and working hard. They are the most hard working, successful, inspirational, humble people I've ever met and I am so blessed to have them!

8.What advice would you give to someone wanting to start their own creative business?
DO IT! Take the leap of faith, follow your dreams, be prepared to work hard and just go!

9.Have you got any plans to come to New Zealand anytime soon? ( say yes! )
I would love that!!!

We Love // Candle CRUSH

Recently I won a cute wee Candle Crush giveaway from on the lovely Made From Scratch blog and thought I'd share my review with you today. This lovely 'Oh Mean! Vanilla Bean!' candle was my fragrance of choice and I wasn't disappointed! As soon as I bought it home with me, it filled our home with a lovely sweet smell that isn't overbearing but distinctive and plain delicious. The great thing about these soy candles is that they're proudly handmade in New Zealand and smell so good that you almost want to eat them!
I really like the brands fun, quirky and creative approach to candle making which I feel distinguishes them from the pack from the more serious approaches out there.

There are so many flavours on offer so next on the list for me is 'Round and Round The Garden' ...What's yours?

Check out their website! and I'm sure you'll get a Candle Crush on one of these gems in no time.....

We Love // Leather Straps by Mathilda Clahr

Today I am sharing with you a wonderful storage idea with spunk that I recently found on Pinterest and knew I had to share it with you all. These Leather Straps are both practical and aesthetically pleasing. Mathilda Chlar is the brain child behind this wonderful idea and you can check out more of her work HERE.

If you have trouble wondering where to store your pesky straighteners, magazines, jewellery or your precious leather jacket... look no further!
I love the look of mixing up different kinds of leather and will certainly be utilising multiple types of leather when I have these wonderful leather straps in my home.I've been obsessed with leather lately - looking at different looks, textures, colours as well as the aging process. I've been trawling the internet looking at videos and blogs learning about the leather making process and am interested in my making some of my own leather products someday!Making things is very satisfying.
